Dr Michael Thorpe

BDSc Hons (QLD)

Michael Thorpe graduated from the University of Queensland Dental School in 1984 with First Class Honours. Michael worked in private practice at the Sunshine Coast for two years and then in London, UK for another two years. He then completed an MBA from UCLA in California in 1990. Michael returned to Brisbane in 1991 was involved in a variety of businesses. He practiced privately for many years and in 2006, he opened Newmarket Dental at Newmarket with another dentist. He sold that practice and then established Everton park Dental in 2015. Michael was born and raised in Ashgrove and recently took over the operations of Allen Family dental from Peter Allen. The practice has recently been refurbished and is now open as “the Avenues Family Dental.” Michael enjoys all facets of dentistry and attends continuing education programmes. His interests include all sports, business, travel and reading. He and his wife Antoinette have three teenage sons.

Dr Matthew Nangle

Hons (Abdn), PhD (Abdn), BDSc Hons (Qld)

Matthew received an Honours degree in Neuroscience from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, in 1999. He then completed his doctoral studies at Aberdeen before moving to Australia in 2004 where he worked as a research scientist at the University of Sydney. During this time Matthew published more than twenty articles in reputable scientific journals. After moving to Brisbane in 2011, Matthew completed his Honours degree in Dentistry at the University of Queensland, where he is also a Senior Lecturer. Matthew specifically enjoys general dental practice because of the varied and rewarding experiences it brings. He is also an elected member of the Council of the Australian Dental Association Queensland. Matthew and his wife also keep busy with three young and boisterous children.

Dr Peter Allen

BDSC (QLD)

Peter started private practice at Strathpine and practiced there for 31 years. In 2000 he bought the Ashgrove practice and continues to practice there today. His wife, Frances and he have 5 children and 15 grandchildren. They have a busy life and he is a frustrated fisherman, sailor and golfer. (Although barred from many golf courses for too many miss hits!) His goal in practice is simply to give the best dental care possible with the least financial burden. He is glad to be part of the new team at the Avenues Family Dental to share the responsibility of that care.

Dr Miriam Tane

BDS (OTAGO)

Miriam graduated from the University of Otago, New Zealand, attaining her Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 2004. After graduating Miriam moved to Australia, practiced in Queensland Health for two years before joining Dr Peter Allen in Ashgrove and Bray Park. She has been a local Dentist in Ashgrove now for over ten years.  Miriam enjoys delivering quality dental care to her patients and endeavours to do so in a comfortable and calm atmosphere. Healthy mouths are her passion and she is at Avenues Family Dental on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and alternative Saturdays and Mondays. She is always happy to see new patients. Outside of work Miriam enjoys spending time with her growing family, two boys, as well as yoga, hiking, rock climbing and reading. 

Dr Annette Gareis

Dr. Annette Gareis graduated from Dentistry at University of Stellenbosch, South Africa. On completing her dental studies Annette worked in the UK for a few years, she has also worked in South Africa and then Australia since 2001. Annette has worked in both NSW and QLD. Annette also holds an Honours degree in Medical Science, majoring in Molecular Biochemistry and during her time in NSW, Annette completed a Diploma in Business studies. Annette has worked in the Ashgrove area since 2005 and lives locally. Annette will ensure that you receive the highest standard of dental care in a friendly and welcoming manner. Annette happily performs all aspects of dentistry. Outside of dentistry Annette enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 children, travelling, Pilates and outdoor activities.

Dr Joanne Mattner

BDSC (QLD)

Joanne graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Science from the University of Queensland in 1989. Following graduation she worked in a variety of private and public practices around South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales. She has been providing quality dental care in The Gap and Newmarket areas since 1997. Joanne has experience in all aspects of dentistry, however her main interest is in preventative and conservative dentistry for adults and children of all ages. She is committed to providing the highest standard of dental care in a friendly, relaxed and caring manner. Joanne is a member of the Australian Dental Association and the Australian Prosthodontic Society and regularly attends continuing educational programs. Outside of dentistry, Joanne enjoys spending time with family, cooking, swimming and gardening as well as reading and movie viewing.

Dr Vanessa Romer

BDS (El Salvador, Central America)

Dr Vanessa Romer graduated from the Evangelical University, School of Dentistry in 2004. After graduating she worked at one the largest regional hospitals in El Salvador, while also working in private practice. Vaness moved to Australia and completed a Diploma of Dental Technology at Southbank Institute of TAFE in 2010. She then completed the validation process for her Dental qualifications with the Australian Dental Council as a Dentist. Vanessa’s happy and positive personality makes it easier for anxious patients to feel at ease before and during treatment. She enjoys all areas of dentistry, and has a particular interest in
kids, oral surgery and preventive dentistry. Other than English, Vanessa is also fluent in Spanish. Outside of dentistry Vanessa is a busy mum to a girl and a boy. She enjoys going to the gym,
dancing, traveling with her family and having a coffee and a chat with friends.

Mary-Terese, Katie, Rachel, Jenni, Lucy, Sabrina, Natalie, Alex, Clare

OUR EXTENDED TEAM

Mary-Terese, Katie and Jenni have been at the practice for over 20 years between them and have much experience.

Sabrina and Alex are junior Dental Assistants that went to school at Mt St Michaels and have joined the team in the last few years with lots of enthusiasm.

Lucy and Clare have joined us in the last year from other busy practices and bring much experience.

Natalie and Rachel are our front office co-ordinators who do a wonderful job at the front desk!
